Step-by-step
- Choose three colors of macramé thread you want to use. For example, these can be neutral colors or just brightly colored threads, depending on your preference.
- Cut the threads to the right length: Cut three pieces, each 1 meter long, of each color. You have a total of 3 colors, so 3 x 1 meter per color.
- Fold the wires in half around the keychain (see added image). Fold each wire in half so that you have a loop at the top. This will be the starting point of your macramé knots.
- Divide the threads: Divide the 6 ends (2 per color) into three groups so that you have three “working threads”: one per color.
- Using the threads, make a single knot alternating colors each time for a fun pattern and effect (see added image).
- Repeat until desired length and tie off with a spacer bead and a simple knot, using a lighter or some jewelry glue on the knot if necessary to make sure the knot doesn't come loose.
- Cut pieces of satin cord of different lengths for a playful effect.
- Use the lighter to gently heat the ends of the satin cord to keep them from fraying. Be careful not to hold the flame too close to the cord.
- Take the ends of the satin cord and slide a lace cap over them. This provides a neat finish to the cord. Use pliers to press the lace cap closed to keep it firmly in place
- Attach the charms to the satin cord or jasseron chain using small rings or by threading the charms directly onto the chain.
- If you want to add charms to the satin cord, you can do so by using a small ring to attach them to the lace cap.
- Cut a piece of jasseron chain of different lengths for a playful effect. Attach charms to this by inserting them into the links of the chain using jump rings, and closing the jump rings tightly using pliers.
- Attach the jasseron chains to the keychain using a jumpring.
- Check the knots: Make sure all the knots are secure, and that the charms and chain are attached properly. Cut off excess threads as needed.
Tip: Play with the length of the wires:
If you want a longer keychain, you can make the wires and satin cord longer, but be careful not to make it too long for your use.
Now you have a beautiful keychain that includes both macramé knots, satin cord and charms! With this you have not only created a unique keychain, but also a versatile piece of jewelry that you can customize to your own taste.
